About The Poetry And NaPoWriMo

Why do I have so many poems written in April?

Every April is NaPoWriMo:  National Poetry Writing Month.

The goal is to write a poem a day for thirty days.  They don’t have to be great poems, or even all that good.  Just write.  Get yourself writing and get past your inner editor, your inner doubter, your inner procrastinator.  The idea came from NaNoWriMo:  National Novel Writing Month, in which one attempts to write a full novel, however awful, during the month of November.

I’ve been part of NaNoWriMo for about four years.  My skills and confidence have steadily increased, even if my level of success has varied wildly.

I’ve known about NaPoWriMo for three years now, and I’ve participated for those three years.  Only twice have I made it all the way through.

It helps tremendously to write in the company of others, which for me has meant NaNoWriMo.org in November, and in spring the discussion and support forums at Poets.org.  They have a NaPoWriMo forum which pops up every year come April; you should check it out.

Starting 2012, I will give NaPoWriMo.net a try as well.  See you there!
